SNOW

Again

I wake up and find you covering my world

I am sad

No I am angry

Your time is over

Go away

Free the flowers

Right now

I need them more than you

Poets note:

Written Saturday morning.  April 4, 2020.

I awoke to find yet another blanket of snow on the deck, on the truck, on the world... and on my gardens.  Last week I dug two feet of snow away from the place where I plant my sweet peas every year... in hopes that it would melt sooner and I could get the seeds planted.

This morning I chose to picture my Ben Garden... All that is visible is the dead protruding stump that was left behind by my nephew when he cut my crabapple tree down in 2014.  The flower garden that I started around that stump, as a memorial to him in 2017, lies under three feet of snow.

My frustration today demanded a poetic response. I long for freedom from the confines of my house.  I need my oasis, I need my garden, I need my flowers, I need my freedom from winter’s cage... now more than ever.
